Stoomtrein Goes - Borsele (SGB)

(Steam Train Goes - Borsele)

The Stoomtrein Goes - Borsele operates a standard gauge line over some 16 km in Zeeland, the most southern province of the Netherlands. For a very full description, including time tables and fares, see Rian van der Borgt's excellent Dutch Rail Museum pages .
The SGB has been operating for some 25 years and has all the paraphrenia and junk!! associated with a preserved railway. They operates a number tank locomotives. The day I visited the railway the rostered engine was a US Transportation Corps 0-6-0. This loco is the little brother of the NYMRs S160. There are a number of ex Deutsche Bahn locos at least one of which is being completely rebuilt from the frames up.
The rolling stock is ex Netherlandeese Spoorwegen of about 1923. All of these have been expertly restored.
One of the carriages has been rebuilt to carry wheelchairs including a disabled toilet. All the lines in the Netherlands have facilities for the disabled including wheelchair lifts on all the trains
All the woodwork in this rolling stock has been re-furbished or where necessary replaced. the result is as near the original condition as possible. Again the trains all have a buffet car.
At Hoedekenskerke they have re-built the station.
They have a water crane fed from an old tank wagon.
